Presentation Evening
The Presentation evening on 15th November was spectacular with even more pupils receiving their certificates. So many parents and staff attended and the pupils remembered which route to take to get back to their seats which meant everything ran smoothly.
The first group of pupils to be congratulated were those who carried out their Work Experience either at school or in the local area. Many pupils had worked at Sainsburys in Calcot, whilst others experienced time at; The Link Café, The Range, ISS the school meals provider, Roberta’s Hairdressers and Downsway School. This is an amazing range of placements and Brookfields ‘Way to Work’ team did a fantastic job in organising who was going where and when, then making sure that this all happened.
Our guest speaker this year was Mr Dave Treagus, the West Berkshire Activity Centre Team Manager. He gave out the Sports Leadership awards to ten pupils and the certificates and badges for the Duke of Edinburgh award. This included five pupils who received certificates for the Physical, Skills and Volunteering sections and nine pupils who achieved their Bronze Certificate and as well as being congratulated at Brookfields will attend an official award ceremony next year. This latter certificate was an amazing feat and involved cooking for themselves and camping overnight. Many congratulations to them.
Other Certificates were awarded for subjects taken within school. In Key Stage 4 and 6th Form, pupils study a range of subjects. There were several topics covered in Science Entry Pathways, each of which is certificated. English, Maths and ICT are also accredited at Entry Level and lots of work, by pupils and staff, goes into compiling the evidence files ready to be sent the moderators.
This year we had a few pupils taking Foundation skills in English and Maths and GCSE’s in Art, English and Maths. These pupils worked hard and many have moved on to study at various colleges whilst others are still at Brookfields completing their work here.
We’d like to thank all those parents and families who came to support and celebrate these amazing achievements, staff for their tireless efforts in getting the pupils though such a huge amount or work, Mr Dave Ebsworth, Mr Stephen Flint (Governors) and Mr Dave Treagus for attending the evening and presenting some of the certificates, the PTA for the wonderful buffet and of course, the pupils who thoroughly deserve our praise.
