Brookfields has achieved the Artsmark Platimum Award

Posted: Friday 13th November 2015

Over the last few years we have developed our school environment to include specialist creative arts work rooms and employed enthusiastic dedicated specialist teachers, Charlotte Olbrecht and Karen Wallace-Jones. The profile of this area of the curriculum has been elevated across the whole school. Our ethos is one of celebration of successes, inclusivity and enterprise. We were delighted to be part of the pilot Artsmark study and started work with anticipation of the final outcome. The entire school was involved, projects both in school and in the wider community have been inspired by our Artsmark work, additional accreditation opportunities have started and this year “creative teaching” is one of our whole school priorities. We presented our submission as a DVD posted in one of our bird feeders!! (alongside the relevant and very necessary paperwork). We are thrilled, delighted and extremely proud to have been awarded the Platinum Artsmark.

We will continue to strive to create an even better provision for the Arts for all of our pupils. Indeed, exciting opportunities are already underway the curriculum is brought alive by enthusiastic staff who allow pupils to prosper and develop creatively as individuals. Our pupils expressing themselves through song, performance, paintings, poetry, dance and music not only helps define who they are as young people but it also allows them the freedom to form opinions, think outside of the box and express feelings. Brookfields is providing outstanding opportunities for students to experience creativity in professional environments, within the school setting and  gain appropriate differentiated accreditation for their talents within the Arts.

We are incredibly excited to be part of the Artsmark pilot and beginning our investigations into the provision we had helped validate the richness we had on offer. The whole school assisted the Creative Arts team in providing evidence for the Arts council. We had support from our Governors and the wider community. This all played a part in our achievement of the highly prestigious Artsmark Platinum Award.
