Covid-19 strain of coronavirus

Posted: Tuesday 17th March 2020

As it currently stands, Brookfields School is open. There have been no reported cases of the virus at Brookfields School for either a pupils, family members or staff member.

We continue to be committed to trying to maintain continuity and consistency for our pupils and their families as best we can for the pupils, at the same time as keeping children, staff and our community safe.

If directed by Public Health England or the Department for Education, we will have to close the school.  However, insufficient staffing levels due to illness may also necessitate closure.  The school has Business Continuity Plan in place which is reviewed daily in light of government advice.

Currently, we have suspended all off site activities for pupils and staff. We have also contacted visitors we had anticipate coming to the school and asked them not to attend. We may have to make other decisions which will impact on our families.

Following the latest government advice, if anyone in your household has a new persistent cough or a temperature above 37.8C, then everyone in the household, including your child must be isolated and stay off school for 14 days even if they are not showing any symptoms.

Please do not send your child into school if they have either of the above symptoms or anyone else in the household has the above symptoms and contact us to report their absence.

At present we are still open. However, as you will be aware, this government advice applies to our staff as much as to our pupils and their families. As such, if we reach a point where absence of staff makes it unsafe for our pupils we will have to make the decision to close. This decision will not be taken lightly, but our priority is to the health, safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff
