Riding for the Disabled
Riding for the Disabled has been a part of Brookfields School off-site activities for over 25 years and is as popular today as ever. 18 pupils at present attend sessions every Thursday, weather permitting. There is a highly motivated group of volunteers that attend every session, without whom we could not continue.
RDA activities have a strong learning element and are used as a powerful educational tool by the school. Pupils not only learn a skill in riding, but they can also engage in a number of activities that focus on key social skills as a group. RDA is keen to ensure that individual’s achievements in these areas are structured and that these achievements are recognised by the RDA Group.
Certificates are awarded following successful internal moderation. These are presented at the end of the year with the certificates of individual achievement.
What’s in it for the pupils?
They get a more focused approach to sessions by taking great pride in their achievements, parents and carers can help and have greater input having a significant contribution to their child’s riding. Awards given can be used as evidence of pupils’ achievements in school.
