HEADLINE INFORMATION

Brookfields School will be closed for 1 day to all children on Monday 23^rd March 2020
Brookfields School will be open from Tuesday 24^th March 2020 to Friday 3^rd April 2020 to provide CARE for children of parents who are KEY WORKERS
The school will be closed for the Easter Holiday
We may be able to open again on Monday 20^th April but this will be dependent on government advice
We will NOT be opening as an educational provision

I would like to thank our families for the support shown at this very difficult and challenging time for us all. We have endeavoured to keep Brookfields School running as best we can but the pressures have meant that we have had to change what we are able to do and offer.

Our priority continues to be the health, safety and wellbeing of all our pupils and staff.

The school’s Senior Leadership Team have had detailed discussions with West Berkshire LA and also the Head Teachers from our partner BASS schools. As a result, we have drawn up a workable plan for the school, which is based on the most up to date information from the government.

Brookfields will opening from Tuesday 23^rd of March until Friday 3^rd of April. We will NOT be open on Monday 22^nd March, as we will use this time to prepare.

We will be providing temporary Child Care from 23^rd March to 3^rd April for parents who are KEY WORKERS and if capacity allows other identified groups. Although all our pupils have EHCPs we will not be able to provide support for all 235 pupils.

We have communicated with our families and have asked parents to identify the Key Work they do letting us know by 9.00am on Monday 23^rd March 2020 via a specific email address. We will be letting families know whether we will be able to offer their child a place by 4.00pm on Monday 23^rd March 2020

Parents should be aware that we do not yet know whether transport will be available for your child to get them to and from Brookfields School.

Parents should not send their child to Brookfields School unless they have been contacted directly to inform them that their child has a place.

Are there any needs that the school does not support?

Yes, there are. We are not able to support pupils who have SEMH, SEBD or young people who do not have a learning difficulty.

Do I have to live in West Berkshire for my child to attend the school?

No, you do not have to live in West Berkshire. Currently, we have pupils who live in West Berkshire, Reading, Oxfordshire, Wokingham, Hampshire, Slough and Bracknell.

Does my child need to have a Statement or an EHCP to come to the school?

Yes, your child will need to have a Statement or an EHCP.

If I want my child to attend Brookfields School, what should I do?

We would encourage you to visit Brookfields School as well as other schools in the area so that you are able to make an informed choice. If you think that Brookfields School would be right for your child, you will need to contact your Local Authority to inform them of your decision. We are not able to admit pupils to the school with out agreement from West Berkshire Local Authority and the Local Authority who publish your child’s Statement/EHCP.

As a school, we have to be sure that we are able to meet your child’s needs, that have the provision to meet those needs, an appropriate peer group for them and also a space within that peer group.

What happens on a snow day?

Every effort is made to keep the school open during bad weather, but in the event of the weather conditions deteriorating beyond what is manageable and safe, the Headteacher may make a decision to close the school.

If we have to close the school at short notice, transport companies will be informed and a recorded message will be left on our telephone system (0118 9421382). You will also be able to get an update by listening to these local radio stations such as Radio Berkshire on 94.6 MHz, 95.4 MHz, 104.1 MHz, 104.4 MHz & DAB

What is the age range of the school?

The ages of 3 through to 19 years old.

What special needs does the school support?

The primary need of pupils who attend the school is a learning difficulty, either moderate, severe or a profound and multiple learning difficulty. Pupils may have additional needs such as Autism, ADHD, a physical impairment or a sensory impairment.
