Network Rail join our Team of Businesses
Network Rail
Julie Grant (Employer Engagement Manager) and Lucy Bellman (Work Experience Coordinator) are always looking to expand our network of over 60 local business who support our Pathway to Employment and provide Work Experience for our students.
The recently connected with Network Rail and met with them to think about what they could offer our students.
Earlier this month, a group of 6th Form students were invited by Network Rail to visit Reading Station and learn about its operation and the jobs people do. After the students had signed in and given ID badges and put on high visibility jackets, the group was welcomed by Karen Watts (Station Support) and her team. The students were given a tour of the station and were able to visit the control room. Everyone was inspired by the vastness of the building! They were given a presentation about Network Rail – they learnt some interesting facts about the company such as they employ 37,000 people; they look after 40,000 bridges and that Reading station in the 9th busiest station in the UK outside of London!
As the students toured the station, they met many of the employees and learnt about their jobs and roles such as station managers, maintenance team, customer services and HR
The students thoroughly enjoyed the visit and have returned to school inspired and full of enthusiasm and looking forward to the work based placements in the near future.
