Year 6 have a great time at Thirtover Place

Posted: Thursday 16th June 2016

Some of our Year 6 pupils took part in a two-day residential trip to Thirtover Place in Cold Ash.

The group comprising Jack, Ace, Jonah, Harvey, Jack, Lewis, James, Harry, Chad and Jess enjoyed a variety of activities. On the first day, we had fun settling in and exploring Thirtover. We went bowling and visited the lake and play area at Thatcham Discovery Centre. Lewis and Harry were victorious in the bowling competition and very proud of their achievements!

We returned to Thirtover for a delicious group dinner. Harvey enjoyed the spaghetti bolognaise so much, he had 4 portions! A memorable evening of grass sledging followed. It was fantastic to see the pupils participating in this activity and having such fun zooming down the grass slopes in bright red plastic sledges, squealing with delight as the sledges gained momentum and then dragging the sledges to the top of the hill and starting all over again! There were lots of laughs from all! Jess did brilliantly sledging with Lois, laughing as the sledge gained speed! James’ determination in this event was particularly memorable and all of the White Class boys had a go sledging independently which was wonderful to see! We rounded off the evening with a camp fire and toasted marshmallows … Harry loved this!

On Friday the activities continued with team games and a low rope challenge. We were supported by Matt, an instructor at Thirtover, who was able to teach pupils to navigate across the low ropes, encouraging some fantastic team building skills. The final challenge of the morning was archery and everyone tried their hand at this new skill. Our residential was a great success! Many thanks to all of the staff who supported this memorable trip!
